3m 6001 lowes

Apr 6, 1. Messages: I always loved the artists that used the Vox to get their trademark tones; I always thought from reading blogs that the amp was more of a jangly, chimey clean with mild breakup amp and I guess I had reservations about that. So when I heard about the AC15C1 and all of the features that it had my curiosity really peaked; not to mention the internet and Youtube posts.

Vox AC15C1 Amplifier Modifications

So after much deliberation I took the plunge last week and ordered one. I hate buying something without playing it but I felt like I had done my research with the limited resources out there and was confident in the purchase.

So yesterday the amp arrived- Wow! The first thing that really shocked me was the weight! This thing is about 50 lbs which for a combo single 12 seemed a bit heavy The amp is beautiful- Vox kept the aesthetics in line with the amps of yesterday, preserving the classic looks that again made this amp very appealing. Vox said it best in the manual, they wanted to preserve the classic vox characteristics but incorporate the modern technology.

So far I was really impressed with the amp- it is built like a tank and everything is solid. Here is where it gets really good.

Best Vox clone in a kit?

I admit I was a bit nervous bringing this amp in to give it the test, but I also knew that if I wanted to get an honest sound and true review this was the best place for it. So I wheel the AC in I had it in a road case to protect it and put it into the soundroom. First off, this amp is LOUD! The key is the Master volume- you get the desired tone from the preamp volumes and control the overall with the Master and the Tone Cut knob New to the AC15C1 is another extremely nice feature.

All in all the amp delivered awesome sounds, but seemed a little midrangy and tight- the midranginess I believe came from the greenback and the tightness may be because the speaker has yet to be broken in. We fired up that monster and Holy Shmolly!

That thing was a monster- The sounds were night and day- The Blue speaker gave the amp so much more depth low end, growl and air! That amp was like a barn door open! It honestly soundwise walked all over the C1 and for a vintage tube purist is a coveted piece! Honestly, I as anyone with ears would pick the Handwire for better sound. We then opened up the AC15C1 and compared it to the original to see if anything was similar- Unfortunately not!

The manufacturers are more geared towards making a swiss army like amps that deliver sounds to meet all users, adding more bells and whistles and overiding the before knowledge of less is more. Not discounting the objectives of the manufacturers just stating my observation. Boutique builders of today; Like East Amplification, Fargen, Fuchs, Splawn and others keep and strive to preserve the true tone beauty by incorporating the knowledge of today in recognition to the amps of yesterday.

These builders have one objective- Greatness and are delivering it! Also I am not a loud player. This is because they guarantee amazing tone and power at a very competitive price. Remember, JJ is one of only five valve manufacturers in the world.

The reverb sounds lovely as does the built-in tremolo. However, note there is no effects loop on the Vox AC15 C1, nor a headphone jack. The amp has two inputs, one for the normal channel and one for the top-boost channel, which obviously boosts the high-end of the signal. The top-boost channel has a responsive EQ with treble and bass, though the normal channel does not. So this will increase or decrease the higher frequencies depending on the setting. Global shipping — we ship around the world every single day.In the summer of Bnwitt started a discussion at Hoffman's Amp forum.

He proposed to build a Vox AC for his studio. His idea was to develop a layout for a single chassis, Marshall style amp. The unique vibrato circuit of this amp has intrigued me for a long time. Soon I was caught up in Barry's idea and began corroborating with him on this project. We swapped many ideas back and forth, but soon realized we were headed two different directions. He wanted to use two boards and keep a similar tube layout and control panel layout kinda like the original, but put it all on a single chassis.

I liked the idea of one single board, tubes lined up across the back like a Marshall, and rearrange the faceplate to fit the board layout. Barry soon became busy with his real life and dropped off the forum. I don't know if he ever completed his project, but he's to blame for my interest in the AC I completed my layout but set it aside and got busy with house remodeling and planning my retirement at the end of the year.

VOX vs VOX - MV50 AC & AC15C1 - Amp Tone Comparison

The AC idea had faded. Then this winter lego contacted me with some questions about my layout drawings. He was excited about building this amp. He helped me refine the layout by pointing out some inconsistencies between the different drawings and in doing so, inspired me to revive my own interest. And when I saw his board come to life from my drawings, I was hooked. I had said I was through building amps, but here I go again.

Lego, it's really your fault! My original design incorporated a Fender style cap board and doghouse. One day while playing Visio, I realized I could use one dual cap can, stretch the main board a little bit, and eliminate the separate cap board, and still have a clean layout. This idea became the final plan and is what I used to build my amp. This was to become my most ambitious project to date. For a seemingly simple amp, the Vox AC has a higher parts count than any amp I've built.

And my logical but unproven layout required more planning than my other projects. The jam packed board had to be right and have a logical flow for component locations. And there are a lot of jumpers that must be in the right places too. The board layout, tube lineup, and control panel had to fit together as a unit. All other components were arranged to accomodate this unit. Slowly it came together on screen. I really enjoy the planning phase, but the actual construction has a lot of tangible rewards mainly because now you begin to see and feel your project and you know it's real.

Even though the circuit remained true, the layout design stepped way out of the Vox box and I remained cautiously skeptical right to the end. But all that went away when I finally flipped the switch. A few preliminary voltage checks and I was wailing away in under 5 minutes. The amp is quiet when it should be and sounds nice when you're playing. The tremolo is very deep and smooth and rivals the Fender harmonic tremolo in my Revibe.

And the Vibrato is really a true pitch shifting vibrato, although it only has a single modulation stage and is not as intense as I would like. It sounds very nice, but not as nice as my Magnatone MA dual stage vibrato.Forgot your password?

This kit addresses a number of issues with this amp by improving the reverb, reducing noise and hum and revoicing the tone stack. While this amp has a great tone stock from the factory, a few key changes puts this amp in the class of its British predecessors.

Included in the kit is all the components necessary to to get your amp in top shape and the detailed instructions to make the changes easy. Hum and Noise - replaces the stock resistor with a choke that lowers the noise floor of the amp, letting out the Vox tone!

The kit also includes shielding tape to further reduce noise. Tone Stack - Makes a couple key changes that reduce the harshness of the top end and allows the amp to work better with effects pedals.
